On January 25, 2023, Webster Street Elementary School hosted a community walkthrough which afforded community stakeholders the opportunity to tour the school and provide input on strategies to improve student outcomes and community partnerships. Eighteen participants were able to see early literacy initiatives in action! Community members visited classrooms, reviewed school data, and engaged in the learning process as "students". Following the classroom observations, Principal Robertson presented school-wide goals, student performance data, and communicated student attendance barriers. Leaders of government agencies, community organizations, early learning centers, and clergy represented the Yazoo City Mayor's Office, Yazoo County Youth Court, Word of Faith Christian Center, Mississippi Department of Education Office of Compulsory School Attendance, Marion Counseling, A to Z Preschool, Kalita Early Years Daycare Center, and Yazoo Gifted Academy during the walkthrough. The participants served as thought partners and provided feedback on the school's culture and climate, student engagement, and strategies to strengthen school, home, and community partnerships. The suggestions offered will assist the school administration and staff with streamlining school initiatives to ensure Webster Street Elementary School builds strong readers, critical thinkers, and positive leaders.
